Our
candidates in Japan are available for
either Sole Contributor roles, or for
positions involving the supervision of
large departments or business units.
In
Japan we recruit Japanese nationals
for positions as Senior Managers and
Middle-Managers for American and
European companies where the
goal is to increase local market
share or to increase the efficiency
of the Japanese business unit.
Often the best solution is to
recruit Japanese-English bilingual
or multilingual managers who have
strong track records of success in
the markets of Japan, or in the
Asia-Pacific region as a whole.
While
we try to focus on the recruitment
of local Japanese candidates in
Tokyo and other major Japanese
cities whenever available, we also
recruit foreign managers, often from
the United States, Canada,
Australia, Southeast Asia or Europe,
who have strong track records of
management in Japan. Some of these
candidates are fully fluent in
Japanese and are bicultural, while
others are not. Some require
expatriate benefits packages, while
some do not.
We also actively recruit Japanese
nationals who are currently residing
abroad. Their education, foreign
language acquisition, and work
experience abroad greatly assist in
their acculturation to Western
business styles, thereby potentially
making them effective managers for a
Western company's Japan business
unit.
Our
emphasis is to find managers who
perform well in accordance with the
business ethics and business style
of the foreign company. The
objective is to find a business or
department leader whom the foreign
company can trust to run their
business, while effectively reaching
local Japanese
customers, suppliers, and employees
in a way that they will find
comforting.
Whenever
possible, we seek candidates who
have worked at their best
in similar roles at foreign
firms, often at our client's direct
competitors or near-competitors.
Familiarity with the target industry
or market sector usually means
faster success and greater
organizational effectiveness.
We
take particular care to try to find
people who are accustomed to working
in a business model that resembles
that of the client company. A person
who works well at a top Japanese
enterprise, or even at a large
multinational Western firm, for
example, might not be the right
person as employee #1 at a
medium-sized foreign firm's
greenfield business unit in Japan.
Searches
might be at the Japan national
level, Northeast Asia regional
level, or Asia-Pacific regional
level.
We
have a strong interest in managerial
candidates from all industries who
are multilingual, particularly those
with strong skills in Japanese,
English and Mandarin Chinese and/or
Korean. Such candidates could be
particularly considered for regional
Asia-Pacific managerial roles.
